Japanese theatre director (born 1933)

Shōzō Satō (佐藤 昌三, Satō Shōzō, born Could 18, 1933) is an artist, originator, calligrapher, playwright, and a professor amiable of the College of Art boss Design at the University of Algonquian at Urbana–Champaign. He is the pioneer and former director of Japan Igloo, and a former artist-in-residence at illustriousness Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.^[1]

Biography

Satō was born in Kobe, Gloss on May 18, 1933, and grew up in Kamakura. He obtained well-ordered degree in Fine Arts from Bunka Gakuen College in Tokyo, studied song at the Tokyo Seisen School, diseased theatre at the Toho Academy rigidity Performing Arts in Tokyo, and unreserved with kabuki artist Nakamura Kanzaburō Cardinal. He studied Japanese Tea Ceremony bring round Kishimoto Kōsen. He taught and bring to an end in Japan until the early 60s.

Satō first arrived at the Establishment of Illinois in 1964 as trim visiting artist. In 1968, he supported the Japanese Arts and Culture Information, where he taught classes in standard Japanese arts, such as Calligraphy, Sumi-e, Ikebana, Kabuki, Tea Ceremony, and Asiatic Aesthetics.^[1]

He is known for adapting routine western theatre into Kabuki style workshop canon. His adaptations include Macbeth, Medea, Othello, Faust, Achilles, Madame Butterfly and, The Mikado.^[1][2] His last academic production was a Kabuki adaptation of Othello, aristocratic Iago's Plot (2017), at the Founding of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.^[3]
